BACK TO SCHOOL PARTY & SCHOOL JOKES FOR KIDS

It’s back to school time in our house. My kids have a modified year-round schedule so we head back earlier than most of their friends. We’re in the final countdown and both of the kids are excited.

Yes, both of the kids.

Carrigan is starting kindergarten this year.

She’s very excited but it’s also a huge change for all of us. So when I got my hands on the newest Pigeon book from Mo Willems, I was thrilled. The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! is absolutely perfect for back to school, especially if you have a child starting kindergarten or one who has anxiety about starting school again.

The Pigeon is about to get SCHOOLED. Do YOU think he should go?

Why does the Pigeon have to go to school? He already knows everything! And what if he doesn’t like it? What if the teacher doesn’t like him? What if he learns TOO MUCH!?! Ask not for whom the school bell rings; it rings for the Pigeon!

Pigeon

We’re huge fans of all the Pigeon books (I’ve loved them since my teaching days), so I knew we’d be adding the new book to our home library. Before sharing it with the kids, I read it myself. I won’t spoil anything, but let me tell you that it had me laughing out loud when I read it!

It’s the perfect book to read before school starts. And Pigeon is the perfect character to plan a themed party with. If your kids are dealing with back to school nerves, we have two ways we love to help turn things that make us nervous into things we’re looking forward to — jokes and celebrations.

School jokes are perfect for sharing with your kids before school starts. But we’ve also got printable jokes about school that you can put in lunchboxes any time of year. They’re great for the first week. It’s easy to make back to school fun with a simple party and some fun back to school entertainment!

The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! is the perfect centerpiece for a Back to School celebration. We’ve celebrated with Pigeon in the past and you can use our hot dog bar ideas to add to a Pigeon themed party! Break out all the books and party with these simple ideas!

PIGEON PARTY IDEAS

Children’s books and their characters make for great party themes. For a back to school party, kick off the celebration by reading The Pigeon HAS to Go to School! together!

Cozy up and share the book with your family and friends. Then break out the party goodies! We had Pigeon themed party supplies including:

  • Hats
  • Plates
  • Cups
  • Napkins
  • Party Favor Boxes

If you can’t find Pigeon party supplies, you can find all of the supplies in the Pigeon colors of light blue and yellow. You can get some fun Pigeon themed printables at pigeonpresents.com to add to the Pigeon theme if you’re using solid colors.

Just remember to keep it simple! One thing I’ve learned is that it doesn’t take much to plan a party that kids enjoy!

We got some cupcakes with blue and yellow frosting. Pair cupcakes with other snack foods for easy party food. Lemonade is perfect for a drink that matches the color theme! Just remember — keep it simple and celebrate the new school year!

SCHOOL JOKES FOR KIDS

While we can’t have a party for school every day, my kids love finding jokes in their lunchbox. It’s a little way to keep the fun going. I like to use them around the holidays and to celebrate the start and finish of school year.

Pigeon Games Free

I created some new printable school jokes to go along with our Pigeon celebration! You can use them for your own party or print them for when you’re making lunches this fall!

Game Pigeon Download

All you need to do is download the FREE printable and then print it at home. I recommend printing them cardstock so they hold up better in lunch boxes. They’re also a fun addition to a Pigeon themed back to school party. I printed out a set and used them to decorate the table! The kids loved walking around and reading the jokes!

Then get ready for when your kids head back to school by grabbing your own copy today!
